Spring has arrived!! You know what that means…its time for floral patterns and pastel colors. I love that about this season. I decided to create two looks a day time hanging out with the girls or with the boo. The second look an edgy night on the town.
The first look features a tube top floral dress. I added a fedora hat to make the look more casual. Lastly, I paired the look with some simple gold and cream sandals. This look can worn hanging out with the girls, going on a lunch date or even going to festive gatherings, fairs or whatever you choose to wear it.
The second floral look features pastel colors and bit of color blocking. A trend that is always welcomed especially in this season. This floral bodycon dress has the same floral design on the front and back. I paired the dress with some mint green wedge sandals. To finalize the look I paired it with a leather jacket with stud detailing on the shoulder and black clutch bag that mirrored the studs on the jacket. This look can worn on date with a boo or dinner with the girls.
Recently, I had the pleasure of going to Taco Beach Shack with some amazing friends for a friend’s birthday. Taco Beach Shack is an outdoor restaurant. They have freshly made salsa and guacamole with specially seasoned local fish, meat and chicken-stuffed tacos. They also have burritos, fajitas, nachos and enchiladas. They also have a collection of domestic and imported Mexican beers as well as margaritas and sangria. You will find live musicians who entertain the crowd. There are couches and picnic tables around the restaurant for guest seating. There are mass amount of sand on the ground that gives you a being on the beach feeling.
When we got there, it was packed but we were able to be seated. The host sat us in a cute cabana that had couches and colorful pillows. The first time I went to Taco Beach Shack, I got the Korean Short Rib & Kimchi Slaw. It was amazing. It was sweet and yet it had a nice kick to it. Yummy Yum! But today I’m here to talk about their Carnitas Burrito. A quick cultural lesson carnitas, literally “little meats,” is a dish of Mexican cuisine originating from the state of Michoacán. Carnitas are made by braising or simmering pork in oil or preferably lard until tender. Class is dismissed. Each burrito is made with rice, black beans, loads of cheese, fresh cabbage and our homemade pico de gallo, topped with cilantro cream. You can get a burrito on either flour or whole wheat tortilla.
Guys, when I tell you that burrito was heaven made! It was so juicy and flavorful. Every bite was like an artistic masterpiece every bite had the right amount of meat and burrito fillings. The cilantro dressing that was drizzled on the top was amazing. I imaged my taste buds were having a wild party in my mouth as ate my burrito. Yummm Yummmmy in my tummy!! Let us get into a serious discussion about carnitas. I really believe that God made that pork with His own seasonings because it was straight fyah (translation: superb). It was full of flavor. It was moist and oh so tender.
The service was simply okay. Our waiter went missing a couple of times when we were looked for him. Also, Taco Beach Shack is horrible at answering their phone because my friend and I called the establishment looking to reserve tables but no one answered the phone.
My overall rating for Taco Beach Shack is four belly full out of five because of the service. If you are in the mood for Mexican food then go check out Taco Beach Shack.
Words have great influence in our lives. They can alter our moods and feelings. They can dictate who we are and what we become. Words come in different forms. They can be negative or positive. Words can heal and yet they can hurt and sometimes even destroy. However, words can only do those things as described above and more if we allow them to. We as individuals are the ones that give words their power. How do we do that? It is simple. We believe it! If someone tells you something about yourself whether it is negative or positive; we internalize it causing a seed to be planted. Now every time we hear those same words or similar words being spoken to us. It nourishes that seed and before long we have a full grown plant in us because we gave power to those words spoken to us. For example, my parents use to tell me that I was a smart girl. My parents didn’t know they had just planted a seed in me. So now when my teachers started calling me a smart girl; it nourished that seed that was planted in me because I believe what was being said about me. Now if someone came to me and told me that I was dumb I wouldn’t believe them because of the seed that was planted. Many of us have plants within us that we don’t know about or forgot about them and some of them are causing havoc in your life and relationships. We as individuals need to be careful of what word seeds we allow to be planted in our life and in the lives of others. Proverbs 18:20-21, “Words satisfy the mind as much as fruit does the stomach; good talk is as gratifying as a good harvest. Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.” So if you are surrounded by people who are planting the wrong seeds in your life then you need to remove them because they will cause deprivation. Believe me, I can speak from experience because I was living a life where I was believed the wrong things about myself. Until God sent people in my life who planted different seeds and God flourished those seeds with His words. I began to believe God told me and promise me. Also, we need to be mindful of the seeds that we sow in the lives of others because we can say some really harsh things because of raw state of emotions. Think about those words before you speak them out loud. I concluded with this my friend allow God to show you and remove those words weeds in your life flourish in the way that He called you to, and to help those around you flourish as well. Yehuda Berg states, “ Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.”

A few of my friends and I decided to go to Kush, a restaurant in Wynwood. Friends Matt and David avid fans of burgers and quality craft beers opened Kush. When I walked into the restaurant portion of Kush, I thought to myself that the place was quite small and wondered where were we going to seat? However, the hostess informed us that they were at capacity so we would have to wait in their waiting room which was a few doors down the block and gave us a basketball card with a number on it.
Now the waiting room waiting room was different! When you walk in you give your basketball card to the waiting room host. Although small there was a lot going on. There was a bar area, a long dining table and some stools in the back. Now, remember I told you that the waiting room was different. So when I sat down to wait for my table I glanced up at the wall and saw fake roosters in cages lined up in a shape of a cross. As I continued to scan the room I saw candles and crosses resembling that of the Voodoo and Santeria culture. I did not get a chance to go the restroom but I heard it had a huge decorative machete piece. So if you go to Kush and happen to go into the bathroom please take pictures and share them with us. After 20 minutes or so, our party was called for our table. They sat us at one of the blue picnic tables outside and we had to share it with another party, which I thought was interesting because I havenever sat so close to another party.
Now let’s get into the grub review!! We decided to order appetizers. We tried the Florida Alligator Bites served with creamy garlic and spicy mayo saucesand the Pork Sausage and Fried Pickles served with spicy slaw, toasted bread and homemade purple mustard and creamy garlic sauce. The Gator bites were so good and flavorful. I did not care for the sauces too much but my friends thought it was good. This was my first time eating fried pickles and I thought it was amazing. It was sour and crispy like a party in my mouth! So I was looking forward to the main dish.
I ordered the Kush & Hashburger served with hash, bacon, fried egg, and ketchup on a waffle bun with a side of maple syrup with mixed fries (regular potatoes and sweet potatoes). At first, I was taken aback when my meal came out because it didn’t look like how I pictured it. I thought the burger would be on a huge waffle but it came out looking just like the picture. I had a medium cooked burger served on two ¼’s of a waffle as the bun. The burger was very flavorful and super moist. I was thinking the syrup would throw off the burger but it totally complimented the burger.
Customer service is a big deal when trying new restaurants and I must say the customer service was on point as well! Kudos to Kush, everyone was extremely friendly and nice. The waiter checked on us often but while not being overbearing.
Kush gets a rating of four bellies out of five bellies because the food was overall delicious and the serving size was enough to fill this great belly of mine. However, I didn’t like the seating arrangements with having to seat so close to another party. I would suggest that if you are in the Wynwood area please go check out Kush, you won’t be disappointed!
On Tuesday February 10th, I woke up with the urge to just cut my locs off after two years of having them. As I stood in the mirror, cutting each loc I felt so empowered and free. I always wanted to cut my hair but I didn’t do it because I was afraid of what people would say and I was afraid of looking manly. Plus my head was to big to sport such a hair cut. So after rocking my short cut and I colored it. I decided to be more daring and get a fade because I saw these girls on my social media feeds rocking these looks. I was like yes this is my next look. So I went and got it but I was hesitate about it because I was afraid of looking manly. However, that was short lived. When I got my haircut. I loved it so much. I went to church that night and two of my friends made a comment to me that made me ponder, “All the girls are cutting their hair. Is this some type of trend. ” I believe that this is definitely a new fashion trend. I say this because I was looking at celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Lauren Conrad, Katy Perry so many more. My favorite short cut look was the pixie cut Zendaya rocked at the 2015 Grammy. Now we have celebrities who have been rocking the short looks for while now like Halle Berry, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna. Then we have ladies who have been rocking the shaved side like Cassie, Smith Ladies, Avril Lavigne. Recently, a young man appproach me and told me that He doesn’t believe that a woman should not cut her hair because its her glory. I would agree with him on the part that a women’s hair is her glory and she has the right to do with it as she wants. A woman’s hair is her way to individualize herself and the source of her artistic self expression. So ladies if you ever wanted to do something with your hair, be like Nike and Just Do It. If you looking for inspiration Pinterest is the best place to go.
