February is known as Black History Month. Black History Month started off as Negro week in 1926. When historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History announced the second week of February to be “Negro History Week. This week was chosen because it coincided with the birthday of Abraham Lincoln on February 12 and of Frederick Douglass on February 14, both of which dates Black communities had celebrated together since the late 19th century.
Then in 1969, the expansion of Black History week to month was first proposed by the leaders of the Black United Students at Kent State University. The first celebration of the Black History Month took place at Kent State one year later. In 1976 as part of the United States Bicentennial, the informal expansion of Negro History Week to Black History Month was officially recognized by the U.S.
I wanted to commerate this month but I didn’t know how. Then, the lightbulb went went off in my head. Lets celebrate this month by doing a fashion flatlay and styling African print clothing. When it comes to African print, there are different types of fabrics such as Ankara to Kente. So here it goes.
Well beautiful people, let me know in the comment section which one do you like the most.
I didn’t want this night to end before I had a chance to wish you guys and gals a Happy Valentine’s Day! So today people would have been sad about not having a love one to share this day with. I even heard people refer to this day as Single Awareness Day! I on the other hand see Valentine’s Day as another day to love oneself and others. I beckon today as Happy Love Day!
I chose to empower myself on this day. I got dressed like I was going to the Grammys. I beat my face and I slayyed to perfection because I refused to be sad on this day because I don’t have no one to share this day with. When people were asking me where I was going and I happily responded that I wasn’t going anywhere. I just wanted to be beautiful today because I am my own valentine and I love me. This is another notch in Loving Me journey because I struggled with loving myself but thats another topic for another day.
I just wanted to share Valentine’s Day 2017 experience where I chosed to Be Mine! Remember you dodnt always need another individual to make feel special. You have the power to do it on your own.
Happy Love Day!!
Love Peace and Fashion
Hey Beautiful People,
As this year is rapidly beginning and we are in a new year which I am extremely excited about. I wanted to leave you guys with some words of encouragement. So lets get right into it. Intentional is something that we must work on and make sure that whatever we are doing we are doing it for the right motives. Because having hidden agendas is not going to work out for you at the end of the day. Everything that’s done in the dark will sure come out to the light. Cliche but true!!
Let me tell about a story about my friend and this guy that she liked. My friend liked this guy and he told her that he had feelings for her. However, he would act different with her in public and then when they were together they would act another way. Don’t we hate when people act like that towards us? I know I do. So lets fast forward this story. So my friend finds out that this guy’s intentions were not right when it came to her. He was just using her to get something which he didn’t. He was the poster child for fuckboy nation. For those of you who don’t know what that term means I’ll give a brief description. Fuckboy or girl because girls can be one as well is a person that uses someone for their own personal gain.
I share this story because we are in new year. We can enter this year with a new prespective so I challenge you to be intentional with everything you do. Do things with the right intentions and motives because doing things for selfish gain will only cause hinderance in your relationships. Trust me, I’ve seen from experience. Its not pretty!! Check yourself when you are doing something or talking to someone to ensure that there is no bad intentions or motives behind your actions. You don’t want nothing to come back and bite you in the butt because it will hurt.
With that being said I wish you guys a Happy New Year!! I pray that you all have amazing, prosperous and adventure filling year that is full of joy and blessings.
Have you ever been in place in your life where you are just uncertain about life and your purpose in it? Its like you feel you are just going through the motions. This is where I am right now? I’m in season of uncertainity. Its been a month since I’ve been fired from my recent job. When it happened I wasn’t sad or stressed about it. However, I wanted to know what now. Where am I going now? What is my main focus? I have been battling whether or not that the Lord was leading me in the area of my passion of fashion.
Guys, when I tell you that I love that field but my focus area is image consulting. I love making people feel beautiful, handsome and helping them step out their comfort box. But, I question myself all the time as to whether or not this where God is leading me or is this where I’m leading myself? I know this has to be God but I’m just not sure faith was. I believe it is Him but just like man I walking on egg shells ans being hesitate.
I don’t know why though. I believed that God spoke to me the beginning of the year. When the speakers were speaking on purpose and they used the name of company D3fined Image and using based scriputure Ps 139:13-16. Where it talks about being made in the image of God. Then later, this year I got an internship with this Fashion Designer. Now my cousin told me that their is someone who interested in paying someone to dress models for him. I was like man look at these signs. But how don’t know its God? I know it is Him because stuff like thus don’thappen to me. But why the doubt though?
I’m over here having a Moses complex. Where I’m questioning whether im good enough and I’m looking at all my defaults instead just being like Abram just trusting Him. I dont don’t want Saul situation where God takes His hand off me or He was with me on this journey to being with. This is the stuff I battle with all the time. I just need a clear sign from God to say thisis where I’m leading you so trust me. I will equip you with the knowledge and skills you need. Thats all I want to hear to put myself at ease and truly take that leap.
This is why I’m in my season of Uncertainty. All these questions and doubts are hindering me from going forward. I don’tknow what to do when it comes to this manner. I feel a fast and prayer coming soon because I don’t want to take this season into my new year. Have you guys ever experienced this? What did you do? I would love to hear your experiences?
As we all the Emmy Awards happened this Sunday! I didn’t watch it but I definitely tuned into the fashion fierce that these stars were serving me. Now I know that I’m late but its better late then never. Right??
Well lets get into my favorite looks of the night…
So lately, I’ve been on the search to figure out my destiny because I feel like its time for me to walk into my purpose. I’m tired of just living life and wandering through life not understanding why I was placed here on earth. TD Jakes stated, “The gift or desire that God has wired you to express is unique to you. Others can’t understand how you do what you do, but neither can you understand how they act in their gifts” (Destiny..Step in Your Purpose). I was one of those individuals who was a bit eviness of others who knew what their purpose were and walking in their destiny. I wanted to experience this feeling of knowing what I was created to do with my life. I felt that I was going through the motions of life. I was tired of just going through life and its daily routine.
Evertyday, I would say to myself that I would make the changes. It got to the point where I was sounding like a broken record. I need to make the change. I’ve decided that its finally time for me to get ready to walk into purpose. I invite you guys who says that its time to walk purpose to join me on this journey. I’ll share my obstacles and challenges that I encounter. Feel free to share any of challenges so that we can encourage each other.
Habakkuk 2:3, “For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end—it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.”
Fear of the unknown can hinder us from accomplishing our goals or promises. How many dreams, seasons or circumstances have we forgone because our fears spoke louder than our passion? Why is it that we allow our fears to be the dictator of our life? When are we going to just put aside our fears and take life by the reigns?
Over this weekend, I met some clients who were telling me about their goals and one of the young ladies informed me that she wanted to start her own small business. She had everything from the name of her company to logo and who she was going to target. However, her fear hindered her from proceeding with her small business. How can we overcome our fear of the unknown? How are we going to strategically accomplish those goals and step out that box? We need to move past our comforts of knowing and dabble in the unknown when it comes to stepping boldly into our passions. Its sad place to be when you’re on your death bed contemplating all the things that you could have done and wish you could go back do but it’s too late.
How many of you are willing to take the plunge and step out into the unknown especially to do something that you love and are passionate about?
You must work towards your goals in order for you to achieve them. If you don’t put forth the efforts then you will not achieve it. So ask yourself, have I maximize my resources and potential in achieving my goal? If not, then it’s not too late to start. Every step is progress.
We all face obstacles; however we should not allow these circumstances or situations to hinder us from pursing our dreams or goals. Whatever you feel is blocking or limiting you from making the steps towards you goal PUSH pass it. You are stronger than you think.
How many of you know that you can find a message in everything that you do or see. God speaks to us in many different facets and that is why He is so amazing. Yesterday, when I was driving to work there was this car driving in front of me and I was like, oh no this person is driving way to slow for my liking and I needed to pass them so that is exactly what I did. So I lose sight of this car and continue to drive my regular route to work. Guys, you won’t believe who was in front of me when I got closer to my destination… thats right the same white car that I passed so couple of miles back was now in front of me. I was like this is crazy and just like that God dropped a nugget in my heart.
He said that there are going to be people in your life who pass you by because they feel that you are not going at the speed they want you. However, don’t you fret because everything happens on God’s timing and He will get there when He deems its time. He will place you ahead of those individuals who thought you were to slow and left you in the dust. However, God will never leave you or no forsake. He made us to be the head not the tail. Deuteronomy 28:13, “The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.” So submit to God in prayer everything that we do and desire. Obey His commandments in order for these things to take place. Check your motives to ensure that they are pure. You can’t come to God in prayer and have bad motives behind it and think He will elevate you because it doesn’t work like that with our God. Pure heart equals favor from the Lord.
Everything happens on God’s time so endure the journey. Just like that driver in white car who was going at their pace because they knew that eventually they would get to their destination despite the impatient individuals surrounding them. We must remember that even if we are slow but steady, we will overcome and win the race. But we endure and embrace the journey that we are on and don’t rush and trust God’s perfect timing. Remember, 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” As encouragement to enduring the race and complete with the grace of the Lord through your faith and His timing.
